Aircraft Technician

Repairs and maintains aircraft, ensuring the Army's fleet is safe to fly at all times.

While Avionics Technicians take care of helicopter instrument systems, Aircraft Technician - or Air Techs - look after the rest of the Air Frame and Engines.

Air Techs also have to know how to fit the ammunition used by the Army's helicopters including the Lynx, Gazelle and Apache, and when they're finished sign for each aircraft before it flies - any piece of work carried out on an aircraft must be recorded on paper.

They're also responsible for maintaining the ground systems and support equipment.

You will be trained in fault diagnostics and repairs, study maths, and work under supervision until you've gained enough experience to become a class 1 yourself and sign those certificates alone. After this, wherever the helicopters go, you can expect to be posted with them.
