Reserve Engineering Apprentice Training

The REME Reserve Engineering Apprentice Training (REAT) scheme is aimed at Army Reservists who are young adults, who want to learn a trade and who are free to study full time.

REME is offering full time training in the following trades:

  • Vehicle Mechanic
  • Armourer
  • Metalsmith
  • Recovery Mechanic

About the scheme

Successful applicants will be employed in full time study at the Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering in Lyneham, Wiltshire. You will learn alongside regular soldiers and train on current Army equipment in our modern classrooms and workshop facilities. Courses last between 6 and 12 months and are residential.

After college, you may be able to work in a REME unit for up to 4 months to complete on-the-job training towards your military 'Class 2' qualification, working part or full time fixing the Army’s equipment.

Eligibility

  • Aged between 18 and 35
  • Not in full time employment and not already qualified in an engineering subject
  • Have minimum Grade D GCSE in Maths, English and Physics (or science equivalent)
  • Military entrance test BARB score 48+
  • Enlisted in the Army Reserve and have completed Phase 1 training before you start the training
  • Healthy and fit (JMES MFD and MATT 2)
