Princess Anne presents TA medals
Territorial Army soldiers from 152 (Ulster) Transport Regiment RLC (TA) received their Afghanistan service medals on Friday 13 November.
The ceremony took place at Hillsborough Castle in the presence of the Royal Logistic Corps Colonel in Chief, HRH Princess Anne - The Princess Royal.
The soldiers that received medals have been working in Afghanistan, alongside their Regular counterparts as an integral part of Task Force Helmand on Operation Herrick 10.
Some of their headline achievements include:
- 12000 kilometres travelled by road
- 5000+ tonnes of ammunition delivered
- 10000+ tonnes of rations delivered
- 15000 tonnes of water delivered
- 8.5 million litres of fuel delivered
- 100 tonnes of medical supplies delivered
- 15000+ tonnes of infrastructure equipment delivered in support of the local Afghan communities
- £1 billion+ of drugs seized/denied
All deliveries were made to combat troops heavily engaged with a determined enemy who are often primarily focussed on destroying re-supply convoys and logistic assets.
The Commanding Officer of the unit, Lt Col Adrian Thurgood said: "It was a great honour for the troops to receive their medals from Her Royal Highness. These are ordinary people who've done extraordinary deeds in the service of their country and the people of Afghanistan. As a unit we welcome their safe return and look forward to deploying further troops to enable the vital work in Afghanistan to continue."
