Our Role

Guards Band on The Mall

Our primary role is to supply first class music for any military event, State event or for any event that requires musical support and raises the profile of the Army and associated charities throughout the world.

From the State events around London and beyond to parades for our troops or concerts in towns, the Corps of Army Music bands can be seen at events across the UK and in fact around the world.   The most well known  is the annual 'Trooping the Colour', watched worldwide by millions of people.

The bands also have a key part to play in keeping the Army in the public eye. Such events would be the Edinburgh Tattoo, Music on Fire and any number of Freedom of the city, town or welcome home parades that are regular occurrences around the UK.

The Bands can offer:

  • Marching Bands
  • Symphonic Concert Bands
  • Cabaret
  • String Ensembles
  • Brass Ensembles
  • Woodwind Ensembles
  • Saxophone Groups
  • Pianists
  • Jazz Groups
  • Rock and Pop Bands
  • Big Bands
  • Ceildh Bands
  • Fanfare Teams

The Corps of Army Music has also developed a number of contemporary bands within each band and as a Corps and this includes the Army Big Band.  This development is seen as key in supporting the troops at all levels with the aspiration to travel out to the operational areas and perform for the troops, raising moral and helping to inject a break into the routine of operations.

The annual RHYTHM FORCE Rock & Pop Concert, which is on the 25 September 2010 at Kneller Hall, Twickenham is the pinnacle demonstration of this support.

The Corps also has an operational capability, and at present this is in support of The Army Medical Services. This includes Chemical Decontamination of casualties for the field hospitals and general duties. This general duties could be guarding key installations to guarding prisoners of war. A number of CAMUS personnel have served or are about to serve on Op Herrick - Afganistan - in general support roles.

The Corps of Army is a professional group of musicians who play a key part in the Army of today.  If you are interested in a career in music please get in touch via our Career pages.
