Royal Military School of Music
The Royal Military School of Music (RMSM) occupies Kneller Hall - recognized as the home of Army music since its foundation in 1857 - near Twickenham, just 9 miles from central London.
The RMSM Foundation Course provides Phase 2 training for all soldiers joining the Corps of Army Music. The length of this training varies according to the standard of musicianship on entry, running from 11 to 44 working weeks. It is designed to allow musicians to fulfill their potential early with a view to passing mandatory tests for assignment to a band as soon as possible. Additionally, Kneller Hall provides developmental courses for trained Army musicians including the prestigious 3-year course for potential Bandmasters from which graduates emerge to join bands of the Regular Army in the rank of WO1.
Tuition is delivered by some of Britain's leading instrumental and academic professors, many of whom play in symphony orchestras or teach in leading London music colleges. The RMSM provides, therefore, strong contemporary links with the world of civilian professional music. Military training and supervision is provided by the best instructors and staff from within the Corps of Army Music and the wider Army.
