The Sinfonietta was formed to allow the Corps of Army Music to express its string capability.
The Corps recruits a large number of string players to fulfil its commitment to State Events.
The Household Division Bands and Royal Artillery Band all have a string capability but due to the number of string players in each band the opportunities to perform as a orchestra can be limited. The Sinfonietta gives this opportunity to perform repertoire and at a level beyond what can be achieved in a single band.
