Director of Music:

Director of Music, AGC BandCaptain Ian Johnson was born and raised in Bushbury, Wolverhampton. He gained his early musical experiences learning the piano and as a chorister in St Mary's Parish Church. Attending Bushbury Hill Junior School and St Peter's Collegiate School he progressed onto the Euphonium and in 1986 enlisted into The Band of The 1st Battalion, The Royal Hampshire Regiment.

In 1990 he saw further service as a Bassoonist with The Royal Army Ordnance Corps Staff Band and as a result of the Strategic Defence Review, The Band of The Royal Logistic Corps. In 1998 he was selected to attend the Student Bandmasters' Course at The Royal Military School of Music Kneller Hall.

In October 2001 he was appointed Bandmaster of The King's Division Waterloo Band travelling as far a field as Canada, Las Vegas and Cyprus.  In June 2005 he was appointed Acting Director of Music to The Band of The Prince of Wales's Division (Clive) and in January 2006 was commissioned to Captain and appointed Director of Music. In March 2006 as a result of Future Army Structures for Bands Captain Johnson was appointed Director of Music to the newly formed, Band of The Prince of Wales's Division who are stationed in Lucknow Barracks, Tidworth.

In April 2009 Captain Ian Johnson was posted to the Band of the Adjutant Generals Corps as Director of Music.


 

Bandmaster:

Warrant Officer Class One (Bandmaster) Matt Speight joined the Army in 1991. After initial training at the Guard's Depot Pirbright, he was posted to the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment to undertake mounted training. In December 1992 he was posted to the Band of the Blues and Royals where he regularly performed on both trombone and euphonium and was also a member of the State Trumpeters.

 

After 12 years with the Band of the Blues and Royals he was selected for the prestigious Student Bandmaster course at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall and on completion of this course was awarded a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree. He took up his present appointment as Bandmaster to The Band of the Adjutant General's Corps in January 2007.
