About the Band
The Band of the Welsh Guards performing as a marching band at a recent public event.
The Band are based in central London ideally suited to the tasks they have to undertake to the various ceremonial elements of a Household Division Band. It can be seen regularly at public events in London and beyond and over the years this has included many overseas tours and engagements for both military and civilian commitments From State Ceremonial events to public concerts the band are always very busy.
As well as a very good marching band and concert band capability it has a number of smaller ensembles available.
These ensembles include:
- Dance Band - The Welsh Guards Dance Band can range from a jazz trio to a six-piece function band. The latter comprises of a rhythm section, piano, bass, saxophonist and a male and female vocalist. The band is in high demand for a variety of popular musical engagements. Recent events have seen them perform in Banjaluca, Bosnia and at high profile functions, including The Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace and many corporate functions. The band has an extensive repertoire from cool melodic jazz, hits of the 70's and 80's to present day chart toppers.
- Fanfare Trumpets -The fanfare trumpeters of The Welsh Guards often add that extra touch of quality to the pomp and ceremony of any occasion. They regularly play in St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and other prestigious venues. Depending on the occasion, they perform as a team of two players up to the full ensemble of nine. They also appear on stage with some of the world's finest orchestras. The superb sound of these instrumentalists with their splendid uniforms and stately bearing set the stage for a dynamic prelude to any special event.
- Salon Orchestra - The primary role of the Salon Orchestra is to provide background music for events such as Investitures at Buckingham Palace and other State occasions. It also plays for City of London dinners and corporate functions throughout the capital. The instrumentation of the orchestra is usually 3x Violins, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet and Piano. Depending on the occasion, this instrumental line-up is flexible and can be altered to accommodate a particular request.
