It can be very difficult to make a professional career in music:

  • Getting on a course
  • Grants and money
  • Getting regular paid work or salaried job post college
  • A career as a soldier in the Army with your main employment as a musician is therefore worth thinking about

Good reasons for joining the Army as a musician are:

  • 800 plus musicians in the Corps of Army Music
  • 22 Bands in the Corps of Army Music + The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas
  • Great travel opportunities
  • Fantastic sports and adventurous training
  • Live performance in some of the greatest venues all over the world
  • A structured career
  • Train and earn musical qualifications - Diplomas and a possible degree in music
  • Paid to perform music
  • Full Time salaried and pensionable career
  • Potential employment until age 55

The Corps of Army Music can accept all instrumentalists including:

  • Brass
  • Woodwind
  • Percussion
  • Piano/Keyboards
  • Strings
  • Guitars
  • Vocals

The Pop BandIf you play an instrument to roughly Grade 6 ABRSM standard then you could become part of the UK's largest single employer of musicians.

The best way to do this is to contact the Bandmaster and enquire about visiting the band on one of our 'Insight' weeks. You need to age 14 years and over and approximately grade 5 standard or over.

The courses are run by the Bands and Corps throughout the year and will give you a real insight into what it is like to be a musician within an army band. The course will include musical rehearsals, possibly attending band engagements, military training and just an everyday look at the life of an Army Musician.

If you would like to attend or would just like to visit for a day or discuss the career options please contact the Bandmaster:
