Presentation of New Colours
On 6 May 2009, Her Majesty The Queen presented the Irish Guards with new Colours. The Band was ably supported by the Pipes and Corps of Drums in what turned out to be a memorable event staged inside Windsor Castle. Those resident in Windsor could not help but be impressed by the sight of the Battalion, resplendent in full ceremonial Guard Order marching through the town.
Once established inside Windsor Castle and before The Queen arrived, the Band, Pipes and Drums commenced with a Slow and Quick 'Troop' in front of the Battalion and an assembled crowd of around one thousand guests. Following a speech by The Queen and a reply from the Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Farrell then received their new Colours and proudly marched past the saluting dais to the well-deserved reception in Victoria barracks.
