Royal Ascot

A few days after Trooping the Colour, it was Royal Ascot week.  Before the races began each day, the band provided entertainment in the parade ring whilst waiting for the Royal Party to make their way down the Straight Mile.  During the afternoons, various programmes of music were performed to the crowds around the bandstand in the gold ring area.  Each evening finished off with a community singalong which was led by John Park, an ex member of the Irish Guards Band.  This collection of well known songs proved to be extremely popular, especially on one of the days when the celebrity Katherine Jenkins stepped in to perform an impromptu version of 'We'll Meet Again'.  The climax of the week was the last night of the races, when a record crowd gathered around the bandstand to join in the celebrations.
