Mounted bands

The Corps of Army Music has two bands remaining with a musical mounted capability, The Band of The Life Guards and The Band of The Blues and Royals.

The two Household Cavalry Mounted Bands are to be established as one combined bands of 64 personnel and be the largest symphonic wind band in the Army and will be based in the London area.

The band will be capable of supplying:

  • Mounted band
  • Concert band
  • Marching band
  • Fanfare trumpet teams
  • Smaller ensembles

The bands is a fundamental part of ceremonial parades in London and beyond.

The musicians within the mounted bands all have to pass the mounted dutymans course. This is a 6 month course covering all the skills required to not only ride a ceremonial horse but also look after the amazing uniforms associated with both the Regiments.
