B Detachment

B Detachment 243 Field Hospital is situation within Wyvern Barracks in the heart of Exeter, sharing the site with 3 other Army Reserves / University Officer Training Corps units.

The personnel within the Exeter Detachment are recruited from a wide geographical area, from as far North as Taunton and Barnstaple, as far South as Torquay and Newton Abbott, East as far as Bournemouth and West as far as Okehampton. As you can see, we have a large footprint and are always delighted to see new recruits from within this area.

We pride ourselves in being a very friendly, family oriented detachment who work hard, but enjoy some serious down time as well. We have had members of the detachment deploy to Afghanistan, Cyprus and Iraq in recent years on Operation tours.

In addition, we have also had many members of the Detachment travel to various places around the world including Missouri on an exchange trip, the French Alps for 2 weeks skiing, Germany for 2 weeks Annual Camp, Nevada for a 3 week trekking trip, not to mention various sailing trips in UK waters and other adventurous training opportunities.

We have a wide range of skill sets within the detachment, some of these include Doctors, Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Radiographers, Physiotherapists, Combat Med Techs, Chefs, Clerks, Drivers and PTI’s just to mention a few.

We have a long history dating back to World War 1 and we continue to honour the exploits and achievements of our predecessors. Every year we celebrate the award of the Croix de Guerre from the French Government in 1908 and this year (2013) we are visiting the site of the event which prompted this award, St Amand in France.

You can see that Exeter (B) Detachment is a busy, interesting place to join in the fun and hard work of the Army Reserves. Even though Afghanistan is drawing to a close, future deployments will concentrate on Humanitarian Relief from a medical perspective, so still plenty to keep you busy.

So give us a call and come on down for a visit, we’d love to meet you.
