Army Medical Services

Wherever you find the British Army, you will find the Army Medical Services (AMS) who can deploy at short notice anywhere in the world to provide medical support. Whether that support is during war, counter insurgency, peacemaking or during peacekeeping operations, the AMS will be there to maintain soldiers' health and provide medical care to the sick and injured.

Army Medical Corps

The RAMC is responsible for maintaining the health of servicemen and women. The Corps is represented wherever British Soldiers are deployed, providing medical support.

The Royal Army Veterinary Corps (RAVC) provides the service lead in the development of good husbandry, training practice, preventative medicine and care for service animals.

The Royal Army Dental Corps (RADC) is responsible for the maintenance of the British Army's dental health. RADC personnel serve in many locations throughout the world.

Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps (QARANC) nurses have worked at the sharp end of military life throughout the last century of military nursing.

Medical Regiments and Squadrons

Army Medical ServicesThese regiments provide the medical and evacuation capability. Personnel can find themselves treating wounded personnel, or involved in their evacuation to a larger medical facility.

3 Medical Regiment

3 Medical Regiment is the task medical regiment of 4 Mechanized Brigade. Equipped with armoured ambulances it provides Role 1 medical support.

4 Medical Regiment

4 Medical Regiment comprises 1 Regular and 2 TA Field Ambulance units with HQ, 5 Task Squadrons (4 Area Medical Squadrons and an Evacuation Squadron)

5 Medical Regiment

5 Medical Regiment was formed on 1 December 1999, however the roots of the Regiment span back to World War 1 (WW1) and 5 Field Ambulance.

16 Medical Regiment

16 Medical Regiment was formed in 1999 from the amalgamation of 19 Airmobile Field Ambulance and 23 Parachute Field Ambulance.

144 Parachute Medical Squadron (Volunteers)

144 Parachute Medical Squadron is part of 16 Medical Regiment and is the only TA Medical Unit with a parachute capability.

225 Medical Regiment (Volunteers)

225 Medical Regiment is Scotland's oldest surviving medical unit with a proud history that goes back to 1739.

254 Medical Regiment (Volunteers)

254 Medical Regiment specialises in providing second-line medical support, responding quickly to incidents and treating casualties.

AMS Field HospitalsField Hospitals provide definitive care for all injuries.

A Field Hospital is a unit that, operating out of tents, can provide a NHS standard of healthcare anywhere in the world. Due to its size and complexity a Field Hospital is rarely moved.

22 Field Hospital

22 Field Hospital can trace its origins to back to World War 1 when deployed in Northern France and known as 2 Clearing Hospital.

33 Field Hospital

Based in Gosport in Hampshire. 33 Field Hospital's role is to deliver and provide deployed hospital care in any environment.

34 Field Hospital

34 Field Hospital is based in Strensall, North Yorkshire. Our mission is to deliver deployed hospital care in order to maximise operational capability

201 Field Hospital (Volunteers)

201 (Northern) Field Hospital (Volunteers) is a Territorial Army (TA) Field Hospital with its Headquarters in the heart of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

202 Field Hospital (Volunteers)

202 (Midlands) Field Hospital forms part of the Army Medical Services (AMS). As a field hospital, 202 provides secondary care.

203 Field Hospital (Volunteers)

203 (Welsh) Field Hospital (Volunteers) is part of the Territorial Army Medical Services (AMS TA) and is the major TA Medical unit in Wales.

204 Field Hospital (Volunteers)

204 (North Irish) Field Hospital (Volunteers) - the only Territorial Army Field Hospital in Northern Ireland.

205 Field Hospital (Volunteers)

205 (Scottish) Field Hospital (Volunteers) is Scotland's only Territorial Army Field Hospital. Reservists are employees of NHS Scotland.

207 Field Hospital (Volunteers)

207 (Manchester) Field Hospital (Volunteers) forms part of the Army Medical Services (AMS) which provides medical support to UK Forces on operations.

208 Field Hospital (Volunteers)

208 Field Hospital is based at Chavasse House TA Centre in Liverpool and has centres in Liverpool, Blackpool, Ellesmere Port and Lancaster.

212 Field Hospital (Volunteers)

212 Field Hospital (V) has the capability to both staff and operate up to a 200 bed Field Hospital almost anywhere in the world at short notice.

243 Field Hospital (Volunteers)

243 (Wessex) Field Hospital (Volunteers) is a fully functioning 200 bed hospital which is able to deploy anywhere in the world.

256 Field Hospital (Volunteers)

256 Field Hospital (Volunteers) is a Territorial Army unit based in London and is the city's only Army Medical Services Hospital.
