216 Transport Squadron

216 (Tynemouth) Transport Squadron RLC is based in Tynemouth. We are a medium capability transport Squadron that trains Army Reserve soldiers to very high standards; being capable of reinforcing the Regular Army with individuals or formed units to provide combat service support to a modern, professional, battle-winning force.

Equipment

In order to meet our demanding role, the Squadron is equipped with a range of vehicles and equipment:

• General Service (GS) Land Rovers

• 6 and 15 tonne MAN Support Vehicles with off-road capability

• Associated cargo trailers

• Rough Terrain Fork Lift

• Transportable Operations Offices

• Operational Field Catering Systems

• Various personal and support weapon systems

Trades

To enable the Squadron to operate effectively, our soldiers are trained and skilled in a wide variety of trades:

• Military Driver (up to category C+E)

• Communications Specialist

• Human Resources Specialist

• Chef

• Combat Medical Technician

Once qualified for role, soldiers may undertake specialist and command courses to progress their career and promotion through the ranks. In addition to your primary trade, you will also be given the opportunity to gain instructor qualifications in military subjects like map reading and weapon handling.

Organisation

To enable the Squadron to fulfil its role, it is broken down into the following elements:

• Squadron Headquarters (SHQ)

• Enabling component (includes administration, training and stores)

• Two medium mobility tasking troops
