Benefits of Army life

Everybody knows that becoming a soldier involves challenges. Developing new skills and getting fitter can be tough; going on operations is a test of a soldier’s skills. But these are more than balanced out by the rewards.

Learning a trade

All soldiers have a chance to learn trade skills. From being an infantry soldier to repairing vehicles, they will learn the skills that they need for their job. Training is free and pays soldiers a good wage while they learn. Soldiers are taught by soldiers as well as highly skilled civilians in well-equipped facilities. At the end the will be able to gain recognised civilian qualifications like NVQs.

Join the Army family

Just being in the Army draws soldiers closer together. Working and living with each other helps build friendships that last outside working hours. That’s why soldiers play sport and socialise together. The Army is perfect for families as well, with housing available at a fraction of the cost of civilian rents. It can be great to live in Army communities, with like-minded people around to offer help and support.

Day to day Army life

Working life in the Army isn’t like other jobs. Soldiers work a normal day, but there are loads of opportunities to relax and unwind afterwards, and an afternoon each week is often used for sport. When soldiers go on operations, all the things that make the Army a great place to work still apply. There’s a strong team spirit between soldiers – and the challenge of using all their skills towards the same goal.

Learning to show pride

Pride is an important emotion. If you’ve got pride, you take yourself and all the things you do seriously. That’s why Army training helps soldiers to build up pride in themselves and in their units. You can see this pride at work in the ‘passing out’ parade at the end of basic training, but you can also see it in the way soldiers dress and behave. Taking pride in yourself and your unit is what the Army is all about.
