JOIN AS A REGULAR OFFICER

As an officer, you’re in charge of a team of soldiers and must use their skills and direct their work to get the job done. You look after their welfare to keep them working at their best. Most officers are university graduates, but you don’t necessarily have to have a degree – your personal qualities are as important as your qualifications.

Once your Army Careers Adviser (or for serving soldiers your CO) thinks you’re ready, some additional checks will need to be carried out; one of the most important is a medical report. Once completed, you'll be able to attend a two day AOSB briefing where you'll be assessed on physical & practical exercises designed to test your leadership & teamwork potential. The briefing is also your opportunity to learn more about how to prepare for selection.

SERVING SOLDIER - PODC

Between AOSB Briefing and AOSB Main Board, serving soldiers are required to attend an eleven week Potential Officers Development Course (PODC) at the Army School of Education, Worthy Down.  The aim of the course is to develop your self confidence, cultural interests, communication and interpersonal skills.  You'll also expand your analysis, planning and problem solving abilities so that you are prepared to face the new challenges that lie ahead.

Once you pass the Army Officer Selection Board Briefing you will be asked back within eight weeks to attend the Main Board. You’ll need to put the experience gained and advice given to good use as you’ll be assessed on physical and mental tests over a three-day period. It’s vital you arrive physically and mentally fit to show yourself to the best of your abilities. Succeed, and you’ll be offered a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

PRE RMAS COURSE

After AOSB Main Board you may be recommended to attend an eleven week Pre Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Course (PRMAS) at the Army School of Education, Worthy Down.  Here you'll enhance your academic skills, cultural awareness and contempary knowledge to the standard required for entry to the RMAS Commissioning Course.  It is unlikely that a serving soldier would attend PRMAS, provided they have completed PODC.
