Regular or Territorial?

The Army offers the most exciting career in the world. It will broaden your horizons and provide opportunities to push yourself to your limits. If you crave responsibility the Army will encourage you to pursue your goals. If you want a secure job and the chance to travel, the Army will let you have both. If you want new challenges every day the Army could be for you.

Regulars

As a Regular, you’re a full-time member of the Army. Every day is different, but when stationed on barracks in the UK you might spend periods working a nine-to-five day and enjoy weekends off. The Army pays your pension and provides free healthcare. If you live on base it will also pay towards your rent and your food. If your unit goes on operations, you’ll go with it for a six-month period known as a ‘tour of duty’.

Territorials

Joining the Army as a Territorial is the ideal option if you want to combine the benefits of an Army job with civilian life. You meet up with your unit and train in your spare time. You get paid for the time you spend training, and a bonus payment for completing a certain amount of training days each year. There’s a chance that you and your unit could be selected to serve on operations overseas.
