27 November 2011 - Rifleman Sheldon Steel. It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Rifleman Sheldon Steel, from 5th Battalion The Rifles (5 RIFLES), was killed in Afghanistan on Sunday 27 November 2011. Rifleman Steel was taking part in a foot patrol to disrupt insurgent freedom of movement and to reassure the local population in Babaji, in the Lashkar Gah district, which is in the Nahr-e Saraj (South) area of operations, when he was caught in the blast from an improvised explosive device (IED). He was airlifted to the field hospital at Camp Bastion where he was declared killed in action. More>>
16 November 2011 - Lance Corporal Peter Eustace - It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Lance Corporal Peter Eustace from 2nd Battalion The Rifles (2 RIFLES) was killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday 16 November 2011. He had deployed to Afghanistan as a mortar fire controller with Delhi Company of 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (1 YORKS), attached to Combined Force Nahr-e Saraj (North) in Helmand province. He was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) on 16 November 2011 while conducting a joint patrol with his Company and the Afghan National Army. More >>
14 September 2011 - Lance Corporal Jonathan James McKinlay - It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Lance Corporal Jonathan James McKinlay, of B Company, 1st Battalion The Rifles, was killed in Afghanistan on 14 September 2011. He was killed by a burst of small arms fire on Wednesday, 14 September 2011, while on patrol with his team and members of the Afghan Uniform Police (AUP) in a village near to his checkpoint. More>>
12 August 2011 - Lieutenant Daniel John Clack 1 RIFLES. It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Lieutenant Daniel John Clack, from 1st Battalion The Rifles, was killed in Afghanistan on 12 August 2011. Lieutenant Clack was killed while leading a ten-man patrol into the village of Dactran to speak to the local nationals and discuss a shura due to take place the next day. More >>
18 July 2011 - Corporal Mark Anthony Palin 1 RIFLES. It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Corporal Mark Anthony Palin from 1st Battalion The Rifles was killed in Afghanistan on 18 July 2011.
Corporal Palin deployed to Afghanistan in April 2011 with B Company, 1st Battalion The Rifles, as the second-in-command of a twelve-man multiple. He was based at Checkpoint Jeker in the Nahr-e Saraj (South) district of Helmand province, Afghanistan. More>>

It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Rifleman Martin Jon Lamb from 1st Battalion The Rifles was killed in Afghanistan on Sunday 5 June 2011. Rifleman (Rfn) Lamb deployed to Afghanistan in April 2011 as a member of 'A' Company, Reconnaissance Platoon, operating out of the newly established temporary Checkpoint Zarawar, in the contested area of Alikozai, in the Nahr-e Saraj District of Helmand province. 01 Dec 2010 - WO2 Edward (Chez) Chessum. It is with tremendous sadness that we have to announce the death of WO2 Edward (Chez) Chessum E Company 7 Rifles on 1st December 2010.##
Chez had been fighting cancer in various forms for a number of years and despite an operation last week he finally succumbed to the illness.# His funeral will be held on 13 DEC 10 at 14.00 at St Peter and St Paul's Church, High Street, Newport Pagnell, Bucks MK16 8A followed by his burial at Tickford Cemetery, Tickford Street, Newport Pagnell, Bucks, MK16 9BG. His wife Lorraine is keen that as many as possible of Chez’s friends and fellow riflemen who served with him in the UK and on Operations attend his funeral and join his family afterwards at John Howard Barracks where we will toast his memory and hopefully share some laughter as we recall our time serving with a great Rifleman, a Chosen Man through and through.####

At the formation of The Rifles, Guy Temple claimed that he was the first Gloster to buy a Rifles tie!! 15 Mar 2009 - Reverend Sam Davies MBE MA 27 RAChD. Aged 91. He was the Regimental Chaplain attached to 1 Glosters in Korea and was taken POW at the Battle of Imjin. He was former Hon Chaplain to HM The Queen and to the BKVA. He also wrote the book "In Spite of Dungeons".
