Headquarter Company consists of one of largest Companies within the Battalion and supports the teeth arms within 4 MERCIAN.

The departments of Headquarter Company are of various natures and hold the responsibilities that are essential to the running of a Fighting Battalion, with professional skills that vary.

Signals Platoon
Signallers are crucial to the Infantry's operations because they supply the communications network between the filed and commanders. Signallers operate all types of radio equipment including ultra, high and very high frequency systems. As well as being able to use this equipment you will also be expected to carry it into the heart of the action.

Motor Transport Platoon
Driving is a key skill in the Infantry. A driver needs outstanding abilities to be able to control a vehicle, possibly on a rubble-strewn road, perhaps under fire. You will have the opportunity to take a variety of driving tests and could become a military driving instructor.

Military Clerk
Soldiers are the Army's most vital resource and their overall effectiveness partly depends on good personnel administration. This enables officers and soldiers to undertake deployments safe in the knowledge that their personnel, financial and administrative needs are well looked after. Military clerks are members of a small team who carry out a wide range of tasks using modern information technology, but are still soldiers first.

Chef
As a chef you will be involved in the preparation of all food. This could be using a fully equipped kitchen in a camp or tent anywhere in the world. Your role would cover the ordering of bulk food, health and hygiene, nutrition, safety at work, security, fire prevention, menu planning and so on. You would be expected to provide this anywhere in the world, in any environment and all these skills are transferable to a civilian career.

Vehicle Mechanic
Vehicle mechanics are responsible for the repair or replacement of all Army vehicles as well as mechanical and electrical equipment anywhere in the world. You need to have some qualifications in this field to become a Vehicle Mechanic.

Band
The band of 4 MERCIAN are volunteers who already have a musical ability and wish to take this further. The band provide many different functions from a marching band on parades to music for dinner nights. We are based in Wolverhampton but have members from all over the Mercian recruiting area.

JAVELIN Platoon
Although not part of Headquarter Company it is based in Wolverhampton. JAVELIN Platoon are the Anti-Tank missile operator used to destroy enemy armoured vehicles up to 2.5km away. Although designed as a tank destroying weapon, JAVELIN has extensive all-weather, day and night viewing capabilities using thermal imaging and is a major asset in the 24 hour battlefield.
