So what do we offer?

What we can offer you is the chance to join Welsh Guards and serve alongside fellow Welshman (99% of Welsh Guardsman are Welsh, coming from both North and South Wales). We will look after you as you enlist (our Regimental Support Team and Recruiters) and in training (you will be trained by Guards Instructors, including Welsh Guardsmen). Your family will be able to visit you during training during a family's day in week 5 of Catterick and for your passing out parade once you have successfully passed the course. During these visits you will be able to meet members of the Battalion who will be able to tell you about life in the Battalion.

Just look at what we have done over the past 5 years - an exercise in Belize, Canada and Germany, a six month deployment to Iraq and Bosnia and supplied Welsh Guardsman to Afghanistan with the Coldstream Guards. In 2005, Welsh Guardsmen trained in Europe (UK, France and Gibraltar) as well as Africa (Morocco and Malawi), in 2006 and 2008 the Welsh Guards took part in the Queen's Birthday Parade in front of Her Majesty the Queen and they will shortly deploy to Afghanistan in March 2009.

Qualifications

As Welsh Guardsmen you will be able to gain a number of qualifications ranging from Category B, C and D licenses to Level 4 NVQ in Communications, IT Engineering, Security apprenticeships, Level NVQ in Public Services, BTEC Diploma in Relief Operations to Level 3 BTEC in Operational Training Development as well as civilian qualifications in recognition of the leadership and management from knowledge and experience you will gain within the Welsh Guards. 

Battalion Location and Role

Our Current location which we have recently moved into is Lille Barracks, Aldershot, as part of 19 Light Brigade. Every 2 to 3 years we will move between Aldershot and London. When in London we will undertake Public Duties and State Ceremonial as well as being available for Operational Deployments. Within 19 Light Brigade we will conduct training and operations alongside every other elements of the Army from Challenger Tanks, Warrior Armoured Vehicles, Artillery, Attack Helicopters and Fighter Aircraft. This will put the Welsh Guards at the forefront of operational deployments.
