MORTAR CREWMAN

The 81mm mortar can fire rounds up to nearly 6 kilometres and can turn night into day with illuminating rounds. You have to be capable of not only handling the weapon and the ammunition but also using lasers and specialist computers to ensure the rounds land in the right place at the right time.

MACHINE GUNNER

The General Purpose Machine Gun and Browning Heavy Machine Gun provide the infantry with weapons capable of a high rate of accurate fire support over long distances. Whether mounted on a tripod or vehicle, their high rate of fire, accuracy and reliability make them a feared weapon system.

ANTI-TANK MISSILE MAN

The anti-tank weapon JAVELIN is the infantry anti-tank weapon system. It is a fire and forget weapon and uses a sight that can detect engine heat so missile men can shoot enemy tanks and other armoured vehicles in all weather conditions by day or night.

WARRIOR CREWMAN

As a WARRIOR driver you will be responsible for the maintenance of your vehicle to ensure it is always ready for action. As a WARRIOR Gunner you will be responsible for a 30mm cannon and a Chain Gun, one of the most powerful weapon systems available to the Infantry.

RECONNAISSANCE PLATOON

The Reconnaissance Platoon is the eyes and ears of the battalion. They may patrol deep into enemy territory on foot or by vehicle. To be a member of this platoon is to be drawn from the cream of the Fusiliers.

SNIPER

Snipers have to be able to work deep in enemy territory to report on enemy movements and can be used to kill vital enemy personnel, remaining undetected at all times. To be a sniper you must be able to operate in any environment and have strong fieldcraft skills. Patience, fitness and high grade shooting skills are paramount.

SIGNALLER

The battalion relies on being able to communicate around the battlefield and over great distances. The infantry has a radio system to suit all eventualities and as a signaller you will be trained to operate the full range of the BOWMAN radio communication system that the infantry use.

INTELLIGENCE SECTION

The Intelligence Section receives information from across the battalion particularly from the Snipers, Reconnaissance Platoon, Rifle Platoons and other specialist sub units. They also receive information from higher up the chain of command. They then analyse the information to order to find out what the enemy may be planning and make sure this information is passed quickly to those that need it.

COMBAT MEDICS

Every infantry soldier is trained to be a first aider but combat medical technicians are there to provide specialist knowledge. In combat they are the Infantry's front line paramedics, ready to assist the doctor in treating the wounded. In camp they treat minor injuries in the medical centre.

 

DRIVER

Every infantry battalion requires drivers to operate the range of vehicles they use. These range from 4X4 off road vehicles right through to heavy goods vehicles as well as coaches. As a Fusilier you will be given every opportunity to gain your basic driving licence and further driving qualifications appropriate to your job.

ASSAULT PIONEER

The Assault Pioneers are battlefield engineers. They are trained to build obstacles and defences and are skilled in the destruction of enemy obstacles. They are responsible for ensuring purification of water supplies and can gain professional qualifications in such skills as carpentry and joinery.

REGIMENTAL POLICEMAN

Regimental Policeman are essential for maintaining discipline and high standards of behaviour within the battalion. On operations they can be called upon to direct traffic, co-ordinate the defence of battalion headquarters and handle prisoners of war. A Regimental Policeman has to be impartial, well presented and have high standards of behaviour at all times.

DRUMMER

In the Fusiliers each battalion has a rifle platoon that also trains as the Corps of Drums. If you have what it takes to be a drummer or play the fife then you may join this select platoon and be at the forefront of regimental ceremonial activities.

STOREMAN

Battalions have a large amount of specialist and valuable equipment. As a Storeman you are responsible for the management and accounting for this equipment. Trustworthiness and reliability are key personal attributes for this job.
