History of The Mercian Regiment

Museum Archives

The history of the regiment is not just the dusty and dry documents within its archives, nor the deeds and actions of those who have served in our antecedent regiments since the 17th Century.

It is being made here and now, in the 21st Century, in troubled spots all over the World, by soldiers from the Counties and Shires between the three great rivers, the River Severn, the River Mersey and the River Trent.

The regimental museums are the keepers of our history. All soldiers and potential recruits should, if they cannot visit their local museum, take the time to read the brief histories on this website by following the links on the left so they can understand the valuable legacy left to them by the steadfastness and robustness of their forebears. They should also be aware that the deeds and actions of today, in conflicts such as Iraq and Afghanistan form the framework of the ongoing history of the Mercian Regiment.
