Conducting Eagle VCPs throughout Southern Iraq

The 1st Battalion, the Royal Irish Regiment have now deployed to Iraq for a six-month tour of duty having left their base at Fort George, Inverness. It is the first time the Battalion has returned to Iraq since it entered Iraq in 2003 as part of Op TELIC 1 - the invasion of Iraq.

We will be based in south eastern Iraq and will take over the from 2 PWRR on 18th July 2005. The Battalion will be based at Shaibah Logistics Base (SLB), which is part of Multi-National Division (South East) Troops (MND SE). Currently the Battalion is undergoing in-theatre acclimatisation and final work-up training in the desert.

The UK provides the leadership of the MND (SE) which has UK, Italian, Norwegian, Romanian, Danish, Dutch, Czech, Portuguese, and Lithuanian troops under its command.
