Bugles, Pipes And Drums

Bugles, Pipers and Drummers of the R IRISH in No.1 dress

Are you musical, or do you want to be - do you play in a band?  Have you seen the bands and parades and wanted to be a part of it?  We have Bugles, Pipes and Drums (BP&D) who are our musical masters within the Battalion. Army Pipes and Drums courses are all RSPBA accredited and can go on your CV in the future.  Not only that but we aim to compete annually in as many major events as possible - like the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Not only are BP&D our musical masters, but they are also an integral part of B Company - and form 6 Platoon.  6 Platoon has our Bugle Major, Pipe Major and Drum Major who oversee not only the musical training of the BP&D - but their military training too.  These three men are at the pinnacle of the Battalions musical knowledge and are always present at the big parades and events.

So you want to learn to be a piper?  How about spending a 6 month intensive course, all paid for, in Edinburgh?  We send keen would-be pipers to the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming in Edinburgh to become Class 3 Pipers.  They then return to further their knowledge through practise, under the guidance of the Pipe Major.

But these men are not just musicians, many are also trained in Fire Support as well as being fit, robust Air Assault troopers.  Ready to drop their instruments and fight, these men are some of the best trained in the Battalion - both musically and as soldiers.
