Exercise RED STRIPE
Exercise RED STRIPE is an exchange exercise run with the Jamaican Defence Force (JDF), who send a Company to be trained by the British in exchange for a Company in the British Army being sent there for jungle training. B Company were lucky enough to be the Company chosen in the British Army to be sent away.
Much like C Company had done in Brunei, the plan was for a jungle school phase where the Rangers would be instructed in the tactics used in the jungle. This would be followed by a period of live firing, which C Company had been unable to do in Brunei. The ranges were all arranged and once the jungle school phase was completed B Company began sending their Platoons through the battle lanes, gaining experience from the use of live ammunition.
This was superb training as the jungle is a harsh environment to survive in, and it teaches the Rangers that their personal administration has to be top quality.
The exercise culminated with a Company live camp-attack onto a position that had been constructed to resemble a bandits village in the jungle.
Once the exercise was completed, B Company had some well deserved R&R (Rest and Recuperation) in Jamaica before having to return to windy Inverness.
