Patrolling the streets of Kosovo in armoured Saxon vehices At 0400 in the morning on 12th June 1999 1st Battalion the Royal Irish Regiment crossed the border into Kosovo at the lead of the NATO led intervention force.

1 R IRISH deployed in order to stop the ongoing Ethnic Cleansing of the civilian population getting worse, the Battalion swiftly moved to the Capital of Kosovo, Pristina, in their Saxon Armoured Vehicles.

As the Battalion spread out amongst the city, Platoons of 30 men lived in the community and patrolled constantly to keep the peace.  In the first 5 days in Pristina the Battalion arrested 40 terrorists and criminals in the middle of committing crimes.  This prevented several murders and saved lives.
