Op HERRICK 8 : 2008
The Battalion deployed with 16 Air Assault Brigade on Operation HERRICK 8 in Afghanistan during 2008. They hadthe envious role of being involved with developing the Afghan National Army (ANA) into a coherent and professional fighting force. Mentoring the ANA is fundamental in the efforts to help drive the Taliban forces from Helmand Province and, ultimately, from Afghanistan.

The Battalion embraced its role as the Operational Mentors of the ANA, and it is a role which suits the Rangers perfectly. The Ranger has much in common with the Afghan Soldier as we are both endowed with a great sense of humour, a warrior spirit and an enormous sense of pride - and fun!
