Tiger Sports

Sport plays a key part in the life of the Regiment both with the Regulars and the Reserves.

As a regiment, The Tigers have an enviable sporting reputation.

At sea, we are the current Combat Arms Sailing Regatta champions, Combat Arms Sailing Regatta Dinghy champions, the Infantry Open Cup champions and the Infantry Inter Unit Champions.

On the athletics field (cross country), during 2014, we were placed 2nd in the Army Inter Unit Relay Championships, 2nd in the Army Inter Unit Championships, 2nd in the British Army (Germany) Inter Unit League Championships, 2nd in the British Army (Germany) Inter Unit Relay Championships, 2nd in the British Army (Germany) teams. In the track and field, The Tigers were 3rd placed British Army (Germany).

In the boxing arena, 1 PWRR are currently British Army (Germany) boxing champions, British Army (Germany) Rest of the World champions and Army Inter Unit Team Boxing champions.

In cycling, The Tigers are the current Mountain Biking Inter Unit Relay Team champions (A team) and Runner Up (B team).

On the hockey field, 1 PWRR came 3rd in the British Army Germany 6 a side (2013) and 3rd in the British Army Germany 11 a side (2014).

On the netball court, 1 PWRR were 2013 champions.

In orienteering 1 PWRR were 2014 British Army Germany champions and runners up respectively, Under 25 champions and runners up respectively and were placed 2nd in the overall Army Championships.

On the water, The Tigers were 2014 British Army Germany 4000m indoor rowing champions, the -British Army Team Swimming champions, the British Army Germany Water Polo champions and the Army Water Polo Champions RMAS.

On the rugby pitch, PWRR were runners up in 20 Brigade 7s contest.

In winter sports, 1 PWRR were placed 3rd in the Alpine skiing frosted blade competition.

The facilities offered through a posting in Cyprus are second to none and 2 PWRR take every opportunity to take maximum advantage of what’s on offer.

Our Reserves play their part as well by ensuring that equipment is standardised across all company locations giving our reservists every opportunity to keep fit, develop core strength, build teams and develop their competitive edge. Cross Country, kayaking, mountain biking and skiing are actively pursued and cooperation between the Regulars and Reserves encouraged with joint activities such as skiing in Bavaria.

All battalions also take part in the traditional sports of football, rugby, cricket and boxing.
