5th Battalion The Rifles Battlegroup will be the lead element for the UK’s Enhanced Forward Presence, based in Estonia in 2017. The armoured infantry battlegroup, based on the Warrior armoured fighting vehicle, will support our allies in the region and will be a forward presence to confront threats to global security. It will contain state of the art defensive equipment and the 800 troops will have undergone comprehensive and demanding training prior to deployment.

5th Battalion The Rifles (5 RIFLES)

5 RIFLES is based in Bulford Camp, Wiltshire. The Battalion consists of around 600 Riflemen who deploy from their base location on training and operations worldwide. The Battalion is part of 20 Armoured Brigade, with the Brigade Headquarters also in Germany.

5 RIFLES is an Armoured Infantry Battalion, equipped with the Warrior Armoured Fighting Vehicle and other armoured support vehicles. Riflemen command, drive, provide the gunners and dismount from these formidable vehicles. The Battalion is trained to conduct the full range of operations, especially those requiring heavily armoured, combined arms rapid intervention such as that used in the Gulf War.

5 RIFLES has the strongest cricket and cross country teams in The Rifles.
