3rd Battalion The Rifles (3 RIFLES)

3 RIFLES is based in Dreghorn Barracks, Edinburgh. The Battalion consists of around 500 Riflemen who deploy from their base location on training and operations worldwide. The Battalion forms a part of 38 (Irish) Brigade. Headquarters 38 (Irish) Brigade is located in Thiepval Barracks, Lisburn.

3 RIFLES is a Light Mechanised Infantry Battalion, equipped with the Foxhound Protected Mobility Vehicles and is part of the British Army's Adaptive Force. The Battalion is paired 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers; which includes D (RIFLES) Company that is split between Co Durham and Yorkshire. 3 RIFLES is trained to conduct a broad range of tasks as a Light Role Infantry Battalion with the added advantage of its integral wheeled mobility.

3 RIFLES has the strongest football team in The Rifles and good transport connections to the North East and Yorkshire; allowing Riflemen from the North of England to get home easily most weekends.
