The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment

The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment - Lions of England! - the Infantry Regiment of the North West of England with two Regular Army battalions and one Territorial Army battalion.
1st Battalion
The 1st Battalion (1 LANCS for short) is a Regular Army Infantry battalion (600 men and women) of the Regular Army, stationed with its families in Somme Barracks, Catterick. In 2007-8 it carried out a successful operational tour in Basrah, Iraq. 1 LANCS returned from an operational tour in Afghanistan in October 2010 and the highlight of 2011 was an intensive period of training on the Canadian prairie.
2nd Battalion
The 2nd Battalion (2 LANCS) is also a Regular Army Infantry battalion, based with its families in Weeton Barracks in Lancashire since returning from Cyprus in September 2011. From Cyprus, during 2010 it was regularly deployed as the Theatre Reserve Battalion to Afghanistan.
4th Battalion
The 4th Battalion (4 LANCS) is the Territorial Army Infantry unit in the North West of England. 4 LANCS is based in four company locations and four detachment locations, totalling over 500 men and women. The Battalion supports the Regular Army, both at home and abroad. The battalion has been involved in operations in Iraq and in United Nations peacekeeping duties in Cyprus. It currently deploys troops to Afghanistan.
The Regimental Band
We have a fine Territorial Army Band based in Liverpool. Made up of part-time Territorial Army musicians, the Band plays at prestigious military events throughout the north west of England and frequently elsewhere, including at overseas venues from time to time.
The Regimental Family
The Regiment has been honoured by 25 cities and towns in the north west of England with their 'Freedom'. We are very proud of the many Cadet detachments and contingents, Regimental Association branches, and affiliated ships and regiments that make up the rest of the family of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.
