The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment

Camels in the Iraqi desert - 1 LANCS near Basrah

The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment - the Infantry Regiment of the North West of England with two Regular Army battalions and one Territorial Army battalion.

1st Battalion

The 1st Battalion (1 LANCS for short) is a light role Infantry battalion (600 men and women) of the Regular Army, stationed with its families in Somme Barracks, Catterick. In 2007-8 it carried out a successful operational tour in Basrah, Iraq. 1 LANCS is now preparing for a forthcoming deployment to Afghanistan.

2nd Battalion

The 2nd Battalion (2 LANCS) is also a Regular Army battalion, based with its families in Episkopi in Cyprus. 2 LANCS is a Light Role Battalion trained and equipped for fast, flexible operations, moving in a variety of transport including helicopters. From Cyprus, over the next twelve months it will be regularly deployed as the Theatre Reserve Battalion to Afghanistan.

4th Battalion

The 4th Battalion (4 LANCS) is the Territorial Army Infantry unit in the North West of England. 4 LANCS is based in four company locations and four detachment locations, totalling over 500 men and women. The Battalion supports the Regular Army, both at home and abroad. The battalion has been involved in operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and United Nations peacekeeping in Cyprus.

The Regimental Band

We have a fine Territorial Army Band based in Liverpool. Made up of part-time Territorial Army musicians, the Band plays at prestigious military events throughout the North West and frequently elsewhere, including at overseas venues from time to time.

The Regimental Family

We are very proud of the many Cadet detachments and contingents, Regimental Association branches, and affiliated ships and regiments that make up the rest of the family of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.
