Musicians

All our musicians play to a high standard prior to joining the band. The current enlistment standard is around ABRSM Grade 7, in order to join you will be asked to audition here in Edinburgh. If successful you can look forward to a wide range of Engagements including as part of some of our smaller groups such as the Brass Quintet and Woodwind Group, we also have a very popular Folk Group. All of these groups perform regularly at events throughout the year. Our main focus is on our Concert Band and Marching Band capability and you can look forward to playing and performing a wide range of music and will have the opportunity to travel abroad representing the Royal Regiment of Scotland and wider Army. In the past few years the Band has travelled to Canada, Germany, France and Gibraltar performing at some prestigious events including a 2 week visit to Canada performing in Fortissimo alongside Canadian Army Musicians.
Military Training

As a new Recruit you will be required to attend some basic Military Training, this is held in Edinburgh and is held over 4 weekends or as a consolidated 1 week course. The Training is designed to teach basic Military skills such as Marching and the Values and Standards of the British Army which is expected by all. There is a financial incentive offered for completion of this training. Later on you will be required to sit more Musical Training, this is taught in house and tested either in Edinburgh or at the Royal Military School of Music in London.
Once qualified and having gained some experience in the band you will be able to promote through the ranks and even in time become the Bandmaster or Director of Music who conducts and rehearse the Band making sure we are at the correct standard.
