Operations

In the recent past, 1 SCOTS have been heavily committed to operational deployments throughout the world including Iraq and Afghanistan. Prior to the amalgamation The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) and the Kings Own Scottish Borderers served with distinction in:

1991 – 1 RS and 1 KOSB deployed to Iraq in support of Op GRANBY
2003 – 1 RS and 1 KOSB deployed to Iraq in support of Op TELIC 2 and 3
2005 – 1 RS deployed to Iraq in support of Op TELIC 7
2006 – The Royal Scots Borderers 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland was formed:

2007 – Deployed to Iraq in support of Op TELIC 11
2009 – A Platoon deployed in support of Op HERRICK 10
2010 – A Rifle Company deployed in support of Op HERRICK 11
2010 – The Battalion Deployed to Afghanistan in support of Op HERRICK 12
2012/13 – Deploy to Afghanistan in support of Op HERRICK 17

Prior to any deployment, the Battalion will conduct Mission Specific Training. Soldiers can expect to undergo training for up to 6 months before a deployment. This can be longer if a soldier is deployed in a specialist role.
