2 SCOTS are a light infantry battalion which forms one of seven Battalions in The Royal Regiment of Scotland. We are based in Penicuik, Midlothian, about seven miles south of Edinburgh. We currently form part of 1 Mechanised Brigade, with whom we have been training for deployment Operation HERRICK 18, in the Police Mentoring Advisory Group role. This is an exciting role; now that the Afghans have the lead for providing security in most of Afghanistan, assisting and advising the the Afghan Police in their role of providing security for the Afghan people is a very valuable and worthwhile task. The training has been comprehensive and exciting, taking the Battalion from a seven exercise in the heat of northern Kenya, to the mock Afghan villages on Army training areas in Norfolk, to the snowy peaks of the Pentland Hills around our Penicuik base.
2 SCOTS current deployment is our third to Helmand Province. Our previous tours were with 16 Air Assault Brigade. On Op HERRICK 13 in 2011 we enjoyed great success working with Afghan National Security Forces in and around the Provincial Capital of Lashkar Gah. Previously the Battalion had served on Op HERRICK 8 in 2008.
2 SCOTS has a long and distinguished history dating back to 1678. Our predecessors have gained numerous Battle Honours throughout this time and have fought in major battles from Blenheim to the Gulf War.
