The Royal Highland Fusiliers (2 SCOTS)

The Royal Highland Fusiliers 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (2 SCOTS) are a light infantry battalion which forms one of seven battalions in The Royal Regiment of Scotland. We are based in Penicuik, Midlothian, about seven miles south of Edinburgh. We currently form part of 1 Mechanised Brigade, and have recently returned from Operation HERRICK 18.

Around 400 soldiers deployed to Helmand Province in April 2013. 2 SCOTS formed the Police Mentoring and Advisory Group. The task has seen us work very closely with the Afghan Uniform Police in Central Helmand as we fulfilled the role of helping improve their capability. This was an unusual tour as it saw us operating in small teams in an advisory and Liaison role with the Afghan Uniform Police.

HERRICK 18 has seen the Afghan Uniform Police improve to the point, where in many cases; they were in the lead conducting planning and operations with the Afghan National Army, when we left theatre. Our previous tours of Afghanistan were with 16 Air Assault Brigade in 2011 and 2008.

In the near future 2 SCOTS will be embarking upon a number of exciting training activities all related to the British Army's focus on contingency operations.

2 SCOTS has a long and distinguished history dating back to 1678. Our predecessors have gained numerous Battle Honours throughout this time and have fought in major battles from Blenheim to the Gulf War.
