The Royal Highland Fusiliers (2 SCOTS)

The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland (2 SCOTS) is a light role infantry battalion based in Glencorse Barracks in Penicuik near Edinburgh. The Battalion prides itself on its professionalism and soldiering excellence and is part of 51 Infantry (Scottish) Brigade.

Currently, 2 SCOTS soldiers are deployed on an eight month deployment in Kabul in Afghanistan on the Battalion’s fourth operational tour in that country. 2 SCOTS are supporting training for the Afghan National Army, and as part of the UK’s commitment to NATO’s peace keeping mission in Afghanistan are part of the Kabul Security Force providing protection for UK and NATO personnel in the city.

For this latest role in Afghanistan, which also sees the Battalion playing a part in the coordination and movement control of NATO forces around the Afghan capital, 2 SCOTS are operating the Army’s modern Foxhound armoured vehicle.

Closer to home, Fire Support Company have been providing the Royal Guard for Her Majesty The Queen, Colonel in Chief of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, during her time at Balmoral.

In early 2015, 2 SCOTS completed an overseas exercise in Kenya and throughout 2014 the Battalion was employed in a high readiness role as the UK Standby Battalion.
