The Royal Highland Fusiliers (2 SCOTS)

The Royal Highland Fusiliers 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland (2 SCOTS) is a modern infantry battalion justifiably proud of our heritage. We are light role ready to deploy across the spectrum of conflict. Professionalism is at the core of all that we do. 2 SCOTS are currently under command of 51 Infantry Brigade, and employed in a high readiness role as the UK Standby Battalion.

2 SCOTS most recent Operational tour in 2013, saw 400 soldiers deploy to Helmand Province forming the Police Mentoring and Advisory Group. This task saw us operating in small teams in an advisory and liaison role with the Afghan Uniform Police in Central Helmand to assist them improve their capability. Previously, 2 SCOTS deployed to Afghanistan with 16 Air Assault Brigade in 2008 and 2011, and to Iraq in 2004 and 2005.

2 SCOTS is based in Glencorse Barracks in Penicuik, Midlothian, about seven miles south of Edinburgh.  Since returning from Afghanistan in 2013 the battalion has concentrated on sport and adventure training opportunities for all ranks. We have recently won the Army Rugby Championship and narrowly finished runners up in the Army Major Unit Boxing Competition.

In 2015, 2 SCOTS will deploy on a training exercise in Kenya as well as undertaking activities relating to the Army's focus on contingency operations overseas.

2 SCOTS has a long and distinguished history dating back to 1678. Our predecessors have gained numerous Battle Honours throughout this time and have fought in major battles from Assaye in 1803 to the Gulf War in 1991.
