The Rifles is a modern and the largest Infantry regiment within the British Army, providing unrivalled opportunities within 3-hours travelling time from practically anywhere within the United Kingdom.
The RiflesThe Rifles was formed in 2007 through the merger of four famous regiments and proudly remains the county regiment of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, Devon, Durham, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Somerset, Wiltshire and key parts of Yorkshire. The Regiment also retains strong historical ties to London, Liverpool, Merseyside, Birmingham, Coventry, Mansfield and Winchester. The Rifles is therefore a national regiment that seeks quality recruits from across the UK, British Commonwealth and the Republic of Ireland, subject to nationality conditions being met.
RiflemenRiflemen are distinct from the rest of the British Army. The Regiment’s officers and soldiers alike are ‘Riflemen’; bound together into a close-knit brotherhood shaped by a common ethos, characteristics and experiences. Riflemen draw greatest satisfaction from their excellence on the battlefield, take pride in their shooting and fitness, wear rifle green uniforms with black buttons, march faster than the rest of the British Army and enjoy an atmosphere of relaxed, self-discipline, rather than the blind discipline more commonly associated with military life. The Rifles is always seeking quality young people to become Riflemen in a Regiment where the command “ATTENTION!” is never used because it is assumed.
