4th Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment

4 YORKS is the British Army's reserve infantry battalion in Yorkshire and Teesside and is part of 4th Infantry Brigade and HQ North East. It provides individuals and groups to support the Army and in particular our Regular Yorkshire Regiment battalions. 4 YORKS is an Army Reserve Battalion commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Mark Yates and our Headquarters is Worsley Barracks in Fulford, York.

4th Battalion Update – September 2017

Once again, the battalion has been hard at it directly supporting operational deployments, two major overseas training exercises and numerous local training activities.

Operations and Training
The main effort has been to prepare and deploy soldiers on operations to support their Regular counterparts; the deployment of 12 soldiers on Operation TORAL with the 2nd Battalion is working extremely well. Soldiers went through a tough and comprehensive selection and 2 YORKS did an outstanding job of welcoming them. Each applying themselves to the highest standard and more were willing to join them.

A section deployed with 1 YORKS to BATUS, Canada in the summer. The opportunity to serve in an Armoured Infantry Battlegroup has demonstrated the diversity and adaptability of the Army Reserve. Once again, they performed extremely well with some getting the bonus of the excellent adventure training package to rounded off a fantastic experience.

4 YORKS also sent an instructor on Project TRIAS; the training and support mission, to enhance and develop the military capabilities of the Tunisian Army. This is the second time they have supported this deployment – a key defence engagement activity.

In August, Corunna Coy opened a new Army Reserve Centre in Bradford. 4 YORKS have also attended several high-profile events, the main one being exercising the Regiment’s Freedom of Hull in June, something that significantly raised their profile in the civic community.

4 YORKS has just completed their Annual Deployment Exercise (ADE) comprising cadres at Halton, Lancashire and adventure training in Cumbria. A platoon also deployed with 4 LANCS to Slovenia for Exercise Triglav Star 3 a multinational mountaineering training exercise in the Julian Alps..
