The Mercian Regiment

Composed of three regular and one reserve battalion, we weave the strength and agility of the light role and the devastating power and speed of the armoured role to fearsome effect on exercise and on operations.

Stand firm strike hard

We work and fight as a proud, close knit family according to the motto "stand firm strike hard" and through it deliver success on Operations around the world.

Professional, determined and fierce, our reputation marks us out as one of the most effective and modern Infantry units in the British Army.

The heart of England's Infantry

Formed in 2007 through the combination of three strong county regiments by our Colonel in Chief, HRH Prince Charles, we draw our strength from proud soldiers and officers who come from the heart of England.

1st Battalion (1 MERCIAN)

The First Battalion (1 MERCIAN) takes its heritage from the 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment, and still draws most of its soldiers from Cheshire and the Wirral. It is this legacy that makes it such an effective Unit within the Mercian Regiment. The Battalion provides 4 Mechanized Brigade with one of its light role Infantry units. 1 MERCIAN soldiers have to be ready to conduct operations on foot, by vehicle or by helicopter.
