The Royal Regiment of Scotland

We are Scotland's Infantry Regiment forming a core part of the British Army's combat capability. The Regiment comprises 6 battalions and 1 independent company of combat infantry soldiers and we are collectively known as 'The SCOTS'

Our Roles

Each of our regular battalions have specialist operational roles within the infantry - Light, Light Protected Mobility and Heavy Protected Mobility - and are paired with our two Reserve battalions to ensure that the Regiment is balanced and adaptable, ready for all conflicts present and future. To learn more follow the 'Battalions' link on the left hand side of the page.

We call our individual soldiers 'The Jocks' - proven fighting men of courage and character trained to accomplish the full range of operational infantry roles. The Jocks have consistently been deployed on the front line, currently in Afghanistan, serving with distinction and upholding the proudest traditions of the Scottish soldier. To learn more about becoming a Jock see the 'Join Us' link on the left hand side of the page.

The Regiment was formed in 2006 through amalgamation of Scotland's historic infantry regiments to form a single fighting force. We are fiercely proud of our heritage and our battalions carry forward links with those regiments that formed us. You can read more about our identity, and ethos by following the 'About Us' link on the left hand side of the page and explore our heritage via the 'History' link.

About us

We are Scotlands own Infantry Regiment with a proud history dating back hundreds of years. Although The Royal Regiment of Scotland was formed in 2006 we stick to the traditions and ethos of the old regiments.
