The Yorkshire Regiment
The Yorkshire Regiment is a tough, forward looking and thinking Infantry Regiment that delivers excellence in all that it does. It is a Regiment recognised across the Region as the local Regiment; representing at the national level all that is best about Yorkshire and its surrounding area. Yorkshire's finest - and proud of it.
Who we areThe Yorkshire Regiment (14th/15th, 19th and 33rd/76th Foot) was formed on 6 June 2006 by the amalgamation of the Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire (14th/15th Foot), the Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment) (19th Foot), The Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding)(33rd/76th Foot) and associated Army Reserve units.
In the new Army structure, The Yorkshire Regiment is based upon three fully manned Infantry Battalions. These Battalions offer exceptional opportunity and variety to young soldiers.
The 1st Battalion based in Warminster is equipped with the WARRIOR Armoured Fighting Vehicle and are experts in mounted close combat. The 2nd Battalion based in Catterick is equipped with the FOXHOUND Protected Patrol Vehicle and are experts in dismounted close combat. Our soldiers are highly trained in both the armoured infantry and light mechanised roles to fight by foot, vehicle or move by helicopter. The 4th Battalion, based in Yorkshire and Teesside, is our Army Reserve unit, training locally in the light role with our paired unit (2 YORKS) in preparation to mobilise, when required, to serve alongside their Regular Army counterparts.
