Variety
With the size and diversity of the Regiment, a soldier can expect a career full of opportunity and variety.
A soldier can now choose where he wants to serve and what he wants to do at any stage of his career. The variety centres around the following questions:
Do you want to be full-time or part-time?
6 and 7 SCOTS are the Territorial Army (TA) elements of the Battalion and in recent years they have served alongside their Regular colleagues in every theatre of operations.
Where do you want to be based?
The map below shows exactly where the Battalions are based at the moment. 6 and 7 SCOTS have local TA centres all over the Lowlands and Highlands.
What role do you want to specialise in?
All Infantry Regiments take on and defeat the enemy in close combat - but there's much more to it than you might think. The battalions of the Royal Regiment of Scotland each specialise in one of the Infantry roles, giving variety to soldiers' careers.
What specialist skills are you interested in?
Every soldier starts as a rifleman but then quickly moves on according to their will and aptitude. A Battalion on operations has to be to self-sufficient and has an array of more complicated weaponry.
