25 JANUARY 2010 - The Yorkshire Regiment Grotesque. The 'Keeper of the Souls' was designed and carved by Lee Godfrey, a Conservator and Carver Mason at York Minster's Stoneyard, as an interpretation piece to represent soldiers in the Yorkshire Regiment. This will be part of the series of grotesques which have the theme of 'illness and ailments' and will be fixed at the corona on Area 2 of York Minster, once warmer weather allows fixing to continue. The carving acknowledges Prince Andrew, who is not only the Duke of York but the Colonel in Chief of The Yorkshire Regiment. Prince Andrew has given the Minster his ongoing support for the restoration work needed and has visited both the Minster and Stoneyard many times. The grotesque can be viewed from the 30th January onwards in the "Prince of Wales" Regimental museum, 3 Tower Street, York.

16 JANUARY 2010 - Can't keep best friends apart. Two best friends are following the same career path after swapping their hometown of Grangetown for the Afghanistan desert. Privates Chris O'Callaghan and Graham Bradley, both 20, had little idea of what lay ahead when they first visited Middlesbrough's army recruitment office together. Chris and Graham, who have been inseparable since they were five years old, had always dreamed of becoming soldiers. Now 15 years on, their dreams have become reality, the pair are currently serving in Sangin with the 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment where their patrol bases are just a few miles apart.

15 JANUARY 2010 - 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment RMAS Sports Weekend.

On Saturday 20th February 3 YORKS will be attending RMAS for their annual sports fixture against the academy. All former and serving members of the 3rd Battalion and The Duke of Wellington's Regiment are invited to attend the event. The rugby and football matches are historically very close encounters and are usually great games to watch. Following this there will be food and drinks served. This is a great opportunity to catch up with current and former colleagues as well as supporting the regiment and meet the officers of the future. Matches will kick off at 1400hrs. Please show your support for this unique event. It is an excellent opportunity to raise our profile amongst potential officers and show the true nature of a successful, competitive, family regiment. For any further information please contact Maj Liam McCormick on 01985 22 3609/94381 3609.

JANUARY 2010 - 2 Yorkshire Regiment soldiers £1000 Raised for Yorkshire Air Ambulance competing in the Original Mountain Marathon.

The Original Mountain Marathon (OMM) 2009 is the world's premier event of its kind and usually entered by proffesional athletes. It is designed to test the teamwork, self-reliance, endurance, outdoor and navigational skills of over 1500 teams of two, from more than 15 countries around the world. The ethos of the event is to be totally self-reliant throughout the event and carrying all clothing, equipment, tent, sleeping bag and food for 36 hours without any outside support, GPS or cell phone. It is normally held on the last weekend of October as this is the time of year the weather is most unpredictable. This was the first time Cpl Mace and Cpl Bradley had entered such a tough competition to which they completed the event coming 154th out 273 teams. Cpl Mace stated "This was an excellent event, and while we enjoyed ourselves we also managed to raise £1000 pounds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance" They are both now looking at entering the Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon (LAMM) in June and will no doubt be entering the OMM in October.
