Join us as an Officer
Serve as a Regular Army officer with the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, or as a Territorial Army Officer with our 4th Battalion.
Since the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment formed on 1st July 2006, interest in service in our battalions as an officer has been considerable. This page explains in outline how the process works. For full details look at the main officer recruiting site.
If you are interested in a career as an Officer you will need to meet the entry requirements for the Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). More details about the RMAS can be found here. The basic requirements are as follows:
Academic Qualifications
A minimum of 35 ALIS points for the best 7 subjects at GCSE or equivalent which must include English Language, Mathematics and either a Science subject or a Foreign Language at grade C or better.
Then, you'll need 180 UCAS Tariff points acquired in separate subjects at AS and A level equivalent to include a minimum of 2 passes at A Level at grades A-E or equivalent. Note that the General Studies paper does not qualify for UCAS Tariff points.
Currently, around 90% of cadets at Sandhurst are university graduates. We do welcome non graduates who apply for selection but if you are considering reading for a degree, you should aim to get the best grade that you can. We do not mind which subject that you study.
Army Officers Selection Board
The Army Officers Selection Board (AOSB) is a three day event held at Westbury in Wiltshire. To learn more about the AOSB go here.
Prior to attending the AOSB you will be asked to attend a 36 hour briefing to help you prepare for the main three day board.
During the three day main board you will be tested on your leadership potential and your ability to work as a team member. Your mental aptitude and fitness will also be assessed. You will undergo a rigorous medical examination before you begin any military training. Once you pass the AOSB and satisfy the academic requirements, you are eligible to start the Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst (RMAS). There are three entries each year and the course lasts twelve months.
