The 1st Battalion is based in North Yorkshire

The 1st Battalion is a Mechanised Battalion equipped with Bulldog Armoured Personnel Carriers and based in North Yorkshire.

The 1st Battalion (1 LANCS for short) is a mechanised Infantry battalion (600 men and women) of the Regular Army, stationed with its families in Somme Barracks, Catterick. 1 LANCS is equipped with Bulldog Armoured Personnel Carriers. In 2007-8 it carried out a successful operational tour in Basrah, Iraq.  In 2009 its main activity is to prepare for and carry out extensive armoured warfare training on the Alberta Prairie in Canada.  While carrying out this preparation there has been time for promoting the Regiment in the North West of England by exercising the Regiment's Freedom of our cities and boroughs, taking part in sporting and charitable activities in the local community and helping a number of other organisations with their sports and fitness training activities.
