Yorkshire Regiment Captains Ben Redshaw and Craig Dawson along with Corporals Lee Burrows, Paul Shields and Ben Dooley, set off on the 18th February 2009 with the aim of running ten half-marathons in ten countries in ten days. The King's Division ITC Catterick instructors were supported by two SNCOs and a medic throughout their challenge and in the spirit of the event, the only food the team consumed during the course of the challenge was a daily army ration packs.

The team started their ten-leg challenge at Dumfries Athletics Club before moving down to Infantry Battle School in Brecon. They then journeyed to Battlesbury Barracks where we were hosted by the 3rd Battalion for leg 3, up and down the valleys of Salisbury Plain. A quick hop across the Channel for a run alongside the canals in both Lille and Brussels before the team continued the adventure through the Netherlands. In Munster, they received a boost from the rear party of the 1st Battalion as over thirty runners joined in the 7th leg in fancy dress, raising over £500 in the process.
On to Bern, the Swiss capital, were they endured an extremely demanding route with over six miles of it run in snow. Because of this, two of the runners had to rest in Innsbruck, but remainder managed to hobble their way through another snow ridden half marathon in the peaks of Austria. For the final leg the team dropped into Northern Italy and the ancient city of Bergamo where a lack of snow and 15 degrees made the final leg a lot more comfortable.
The team claim is was a wonderful experience for all those involved and extremely rewarding to be able to help in some small way. So far the team have risen over
£6000 although there is still money to be collected. Further donations can be made online at
