Mercian: Meet Us - Look at Life
Do you want to know more about life and soldiering in the Mercians?
Then come and see Where Eagles Dare - a three day residential "Look at Life" course that:
- shows you a day in the life of a Mercian soldier
- introduces you to basic infantry skills and fitness
- lets you see some training at the Infantry Training Centre, Catterick, North Yorkshire
Your accommodation and meals are free, and our instructors will answer any questions you may have.
You will also have the chance to meet serving soldiers and others whom you may train or serve with if you join the Regiment.
A typical programme:
Day 1
- Train to Darlington (fare paid by the Army), and reception by the Regimental Support Team
- Travel to Wathgill Camp, introductory briefing
- 1½ mile run - your chance to show us how fit you are!
- Lunch
- Ice-breakers - tell us about yourself
- Basic infantry skills - weapon handling, field craft, patrolling skills
- Dinner
- Night-time patrol skills, tactical hand signals
Day 2
- Breakfast
- Visit 1 Mercian - see the camp and facilities, meet serving soldiers
- Lunch
- Dismounted Close Combat Trainer (DCCT) indoor laser range - show us your shooting skills!
- Infantry weapons stands - get your hands on mortars, sniper rifles and machine guns
- Dinner
- Exercise FIRST STRIKE - night-time patrols exercise
Day 3
- Breakfast
- Visit the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) Catterick - meet recruits and staff, see some training and a Pass Off Parade
- Return home by train
