Joining as a regular officer

Mercian officer

Fancy a challenge? Within 18 months of joining you could have command of up to 30 men.

Commanding British soldiers is a great honour. It will challenge you both physically and mentally, and you will have to deal with complex situations under significant pressure.

You must be the best, but you will be supported by the best - the Mercian Infantryman.

Selection and Training

All potential officers attend the Army Officers' Selection Board at Westbury, Wiltshire for briefing and selection.

If successful, you will spend 12 months at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, regarded as the finest leadership academy in the world.

Then you will attend the Platoon Commanders' Battle Course in Brecon before joining your battalion.
