Roll of Honour

In Memory Of Yorkshire Soldiers...

This Online Roll of Honour was created to complement the Roll of Honour Book presented to the Regiment by the Officers and Men of the 1st Battalion in memory of Private Luke Simpson, the first soldier of the Regiment to lose his life on operations.
 
The Roll of Honour Book was dedicated by the Dean of York Minster, the Very Reverend Keith Jones, at a Service to Celebrate the Formation of The Yorkshire Regiment on Saturday 22 September 2007.  The book contains the names of those soldiers of The Yorkshire Regiment who have given their lives for their country.

Killed in Afghanistan Friday 30 December 2011

Private King was taking part in a partnered foot patrol with Afghan National Security Forces to increase security around the village of Llara Kalay, in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province. During a firefight Private King was caught in the blast from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and was killed in action.

Private Thornton died as a result of an explosion from an Improvised Explosive Device whilst on foot patrol in the Babaji area at the northern tip of the Lashkar Gah District of Helmand Province.

Lance Corporal Ramsden was killed when the vehicle in which he was travelling overturned into the Nahr-e-Bughra Canal. Lance Corporal Ramsden was killed in the incident alongside three of his colleagues from the Police Advisory Team - Colour Sergeant Horton, Private Douglas Halliday and Private Alex Isaac

Corporal Lawrence was taking part in a joint UK - Afghan National Army night patrol in Kajaki, tasked with clearing a number of compounds. Immediately upon entry into a compound an explosive device detonated fatally injuring Corporal Lawrence and injuring another soldier. Posthumously Mentioned in Dispatches (July 2008).

Killed In Afghanistan on Saturday 8 December 2007

Sergeant Johnson was taking part in operations to recapture the town of Musa Qaleh in Helmand Province when an explosive device detonated - suspected to be a mine - resulting in his death and inflicting serious injuries to another soldier in the same vehicle. Posthumously Mentioned in Dispatches (July 2008).
