Who we are
Our past
In 2007, the Cheshire Regiment, the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment, and the Staffordshire Regiment came together to become the Mercian Regiment, after the ancient kingdom of Mercia.
For more than 300 years, officers and soldiers of the 3 regiments served in all the main actions of the British Army. From the Crimea to the First World War, from the Second World War to Iraq, their excellent service record was based on courage, expertise and unstoppable spirit.
As county regiments, their strength came from their ties to the cities, towns and villages in the heart of England. It was a strength that never failed.

Now, and into the future
While we look to our past with pride, we also look to a bright future.
We stay in touch with the original counties our soldiers come from, an
area with a great history and great variety.
We are a proud, close-knit local Regiment with 3 centuries of success behind us. We are the foot soldiers of the modern Heart of England - confident, varied and forward looking.
