The Infantry

The British Infantry is based on the tried and tested regimental system, which has repeatedly proved successful on operations over the years. A regiment is made up of one or more regular battalion and in most cases includes an associated reserve battalion. In total the Infantry consists of 33 regular battalions and 14 reserve battalions and forms 19 regiments.

Espirit de corps

The esprit de corps of the regimental system is maintained in the names, titles and traditions of British Infantry regiments handed down through history with a tradition of courage in battle.

Infantry regiments are grouped into divisions. These are no longer field formations but represent original historical groupings based on speciality and geography.

The Infantry consists of 19 regiments which are made up of 33 regular and 14 reserve battalions.

You have the choice of being part of our exceptional fighting force either full time or part time.
